背景 | The human genome contains 19 putatively functional aldehyde dehydrogenase (ALDH) genes, which encode enzymes critical for detoxification of endogenous and exogenous aldehyde substrates through NAD(P)+-dependent oxidation. ALDH1 has three main isotypes, ALDH1A1, ALDH1A2, and ALDH1A3, which are primarily localized in the cytosol of cells from various tissues, include enzymes able to oxidize retinal and aliphatic aldehydes. They exhibit high activity for oxidation of aldophosphamide and play a role in the detoxification of some commonly used anticancer drugs, such as oxazaphosphorines. ALDH1A2 is mainly distribute in Testis, liver and kidney. ALDH1A2 is a candidate tumor suppressor. Low ALDH1A2 expression is associated with an unfavorable prognosis in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma. |
