背景 Gene regulatory programs in different cell types are largely defined through cell-specific enhancers activity. H2A.Z is the histone variant that has been shown to play important roles in transcription mainly by controlling proximal promoters. It is used to mediate the thermosensory response, and is essential to perceive the ambient temperature. H2A.Z has been implicated in many diverse biological processes, such as gene activation, chromosome segregation, heterochromatin silencing, and progression through the cell cycle. The involvement of H2A.Z in transcription regulation and in maintaining chromosome stability and segregation may be relevant to a recently recognized connection to oncogenesis. Indeed, studies in cancer patients have reported significant overexpression of H2A.Z in several major types of malignancies, especially at the metastatic stage.
