| 背景 | Glutathione peroxidases (GPxs) belong to a family of phylogenetically related enzymes. In mammals, the peroxidases inter alia comprise the 8 glutathione peroxidases (GPx1–GPx8) so far identified. The location of GPx2 is mainly in the intestinal epithelium. GPX2 is known to reduce hydrogen peroxide and superoxide radical, and is considered to play a major role in the antioxidant defense system, including protection against oxidative damage from risk factors like food consumption, and smoking. On the other hand, GPX2 is shown to contribute to the progression of malignant tumor. |
